Course Description

This qualification provides a trade outcome in painting and decorating for residential and commercial construction work.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Painter and Decorator.
Delivery Mode

This program is delivered face to face in the classroom and practical training is provided in a simulated workshop.

Valley International College Entry Requirements

Valley International College has the following entry requirements:

International students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age before commencement of course.
  • Have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test
    • Evidence that, within two years of their application date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a senior secondary certificate of education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework.
    • Pre-entry Oxford Placement Test of result no less than B2 with no category lower than B1.

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted.  Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

Course Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 94 weeks, including 74 weeks of training and assessment and 20 weeks of holidays.

  • CPCCOM1015 Carry out measurements and calculations
  • CPCCCM2008* Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding
  • CPCCCM2012* Work safely at heights
  • CPCCOM2001* Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • CPCCPB3026* Erect and maintain trestle and plank systems
  • CPCCPD2011* Handle and store painting and decorating materials
  • CPCCPD2012* Use painting and decorating tools and equipment
  • CPCCPD2013* Remove and replace doors and door and window components
  • CPCCPD3021* Prepare existing coated surface for painting
  • CPCCPD3022* Apply paint by brush and roller
  • CPCCPD3023* Apply texture coat paint finishes by brush, roller and spray
  • CPCCPD3024* Apply paint by spray
  • CPCCPD3025* Match specific paint colours
  • CPCCPD3026* Apply stains and clear timber finishes
  • CPCCPD3027* Remove and apply wallpaper
  • CPCCPD3028* Apply decorative paint finishes
  • CPCCPD3030* Apply protective paint coating systems
  • CPCCPD3031* Work safely with lead-painted surfaces in the painting industry
  • CPCCPD3035* Prepare uncoated surfaces for painting
  • CPCCPD3036* Work safely to encapsulate non-friable asbestos

Elective

  • CPCCSP3003* Apply trowelled texture coat finishes
  • CPCCPD3029* Remove graffiti and apply anti-graffiti coatings
  • CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
